Please read the following guidelines before nominating a Festival or Event

After you have completed your nomination or vote, you will receive a confirmation email.   If you do not see this in your inbox, please check your trash bin or spam folder.    If it is not there, please contact info@scv-awards.co.uk and we will ensure your very important nomination has been received.


To be eligible for selection as the Volunteer Led Canal Festival or Event Award (Scotland), the nominated event must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • The Nominated Festival or Event must be predominantly organised and staffed by volunteers, based on the canal or engaging in canal based activity within Scotland.
  • Provide an excellent visitor, community and volunteer experience.
  • Have a strong link to the canal and the community surrounding the event.
  • Positively promote canal life and activity in its remit
  • Show commitment to sustainability in its delivery and be sympathetic to the environment around the Event.
  • Nominators must demonstrate their nominee’s commitment to Volunteers within their Festival or Event.
  • Nominators must demonstrate the Festival or Event’s benefits to the canal and community.
  • The deadline for all nominations for the Volunteer Led Canal Festival or Event Award is Friday 25th September 2020 @ 7:00pm. We regret that entries received after this deadline cannot be considered.

Guidance Notes:

  • All nominations must be submitted to Scottish Canals Volunteer Awards 2020 using the on-line nomination form or by email submission in accordance with the following email guidelines.
  • The Volunteer Led Canal Festival or Event Award will be awarded annually
  • Organisers of festivals or events can submit applications for consideration by the judging panel, in addition to any nomination of the event made by others.   All nomination information for an event will be collated into one nomination for consideration by the judging panel.
  • Once an event has been submitted for consideration, organisers are encouraged to engage with the wider community to attract votes supporting their application.
  • The nominator must provide the contact information, including email address and telephone number for the nominated Festival / Event including a named individual (if known) within of the nominee for the Volunteer Led Canal Festival or Event Award.
  • The nominated Festival / Event will be required to support a media release and photo opportunity they be selected for a short list or as the eventual winner.
  • The judge’s decision will be final

Email Submission Guidelines

In addition to the above guidance notes, email submissions should follow the email submission guidelines ....

  • The nominator must provide their contact information, including email address and telephone number
  • The nominator must provide the contact information, including email address and telephone number for the nominated Festival / Event including a named individual (if known) within of the nominee for the Volunteer Led Canal Festival or Event Award.
  • Entries should include a short (500 word max) text submission explaining why the nominee should be considered for the Volunteer Led Canal Festival or Event Award.
  • A maximum of three images may be attached to the email submission to demonstrate why the nominee warrants consideration.
  • Emails received after the above stated deadline cannot be considered.
