Scottish Canals Volunteer Unsung Hero Award is made to honour an individual who has not only made an outstanding contribution to the canal fraternity but also demonstrated an unselfish commitment to the heritage of the canal network in Scotland.

The Unsung Hero Award will be granted to a person (or persons) nominated by the general public, or representatives of organisations with an interest in the canal network, whose work has not previously been acknowledged.

To be eligible for selection as the unsung hero 2020, the nominated hero must meet the following minimum criteria:

The candidate must live in Scotland
The candidate must be an un-paid volunteer
Candidate can be a member of the public, or part of a voluntary group or organisation, or a private individual, who has made an outstanding unselfish but hitherto un-rewarded contribution to Scotland’s canal network.
Nominators must demonstrate how their candidate has encouraged or facilitated a tangible improvement in the canal network or environment.
Nominators must demonstrate that their candidates work encourages and delivers benefit to the operation and appeal of the canals
Nominators must demonstrate their candidates commitment to Scotland’s canal network
The Closing Date for all nominations is 30th September 2020

Guidance Notes:

All nominations must be submitted to Scottish Canals Volunteer Awards 2020 using the on-line nomination form or by email submission to info@scv-awards.co.uk in accordance with the following email guidelines.
Previously awarded unsung hero's can not be nominated again in subsequent years.
No self-nominations are permitted; nominations must be submitted on behalf of another person who is not a member of the nominator’s immediate family
Nominator must provide contact information, including where available, email address and telephone number for the nominated Unsung Hero.
Employees of Scottish Canals are not eligible for nomination
The nominated candidate will be required to support a media release and photo opportunity should he or she be selected for a short list or as the eventual winner.

The nominator must provide the contact information, including email address and / or telephone number for the nominated Unsung Hero
Entries should include a short (500 word max) text submission explaining why the nominee should be considered for the Unsung Hero award.
Emails received after the above stated deadline can not be considered.

A maximum of three images may be attached to the email submission to demonstrate why the nominee warrants consideration.
